Could we already be looking towards a “Batman 3”?

David Goyer spoke to MTV News about his thoughts on a 3rd film.  Here’s what he had to say:

“I think that’s the scariest thing – to think, could we come up with a third movie that was as good as the first two?  Can we top ourselves?  Doing it a third time would be a big proposition.  We’ve only talked loosely about it, though, Chris and I.”

“I have [a theme and villain]. But I’m not going to tell you. Chris is very particular about that.”

“I do think, though, that if there’s not a third film – these two movies stand on their own. I think it could go either way.”

Well, at least we know they’re talking it over.  With the aftermath of events from TDK, we were left with a final note from Commissioner Gordon:

He’s the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now.  So We’ll hunt him, because he can take it.  Because he’s not a hero.  He’s a silent guardian…a watchful protector…a Dark Knight.

Based on this, I’d have to speculate the theme for “Batman 3” would lie somewhere along the lines of redemption, or perhaps sustenance.  A film almost always needs to have a love interest and who better to top off the late character of Rachel Dawes than Selina Kyle aka Catwoman?  As for the villain, I think to many of us it still remains a complete Mister E……

  1. I think Catwoman could fit into Nolan’s universe!

  2. Catwoman as a secondary villian/thief that Batman is trying to track down would be an interesting character, and Selina Kyle as a potential love interest for Bruce in the aftermath of Rachael’s death would also be an interesting angle to delve into.

As for villian…gotta be Riddler, but if they could find a realistic and serious way to do freeze that didn’t involve redirecting the sun’s rays…that could be good too.

  3. For your sake, Eugene, I hope there is no Catwoman in the next movie. Ugh!

  4. The Wayne enterprises employee who was planning to blackmail Bruce Wayne, his name was Mister Reese. Think about that.

  5. Yeah…that’s been out there for quite some time. I’m not too sold on that rumor though.
