Though the report came out yesterday saying that the box office sales were $155.34 million, I wanted to wait until the actual numbers were published. Today it was announced that the total opening weekend sales for “The Dark Knight” were $158.4 million. By breaking the opening weekend record for Sony’s “Spiderman 3” ($151.1 million), it became the biggest opening weekend for a movie ever.
So far it has broken the record mentioned above, the record for sales on opening day, the record for a midnight showing (previously held by “Star Wars: Episode III), and the record for an IMAX opening. The trend indicates that the total sales by the end of this week could be over $220 million. Chalk up a victory for the geeks.
