On April 17, the MGO (Metal Gear Online) client was finally available for download on the PlayStation 3 network, using a UPV code attached to pre-orders of the long-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This beta client would allow gamers to face each other online using customizable characters configured to play like Solid Snake himself. Unfortunately, Konami did not expect the massive onslaught of players worldwide, cramming into the servers, creating traffic congestion that’s been comparable to LA rush hour…
Not only have players pulled several hairs over constant disconnects, attempting to download a Version 1.01 update, but they’ve also spent countless hours attempting to obtain a Konami ID, which has also been affected by the traffic.
FYI: For those finding themselves standing by a window ledge, staring blankly down at 50 towering stories, read this first. Unless you already have it, download Firefox browser along with the AutoFormer add-on HERE. At each step of the Konami ID registration process, enter your information and use AutoFormer (under Edit) to save all fields. Once you’ve accomplished that and made sure all your information is correct, try registering once more, but rush through each step as fast as you humanly can. This will save you precious hours of your life and put your mind at ease.
However, with bad news comes…more bad news. Gameplay for MGO beta was scheduled to be available from April 21st to May 5. Konami has made the following announcement:
IMPORTANT NOTICE for all
METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE BETA players
We would like to thank all players for their keen interest in taking part in the beta test.
However, we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected.
As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the European public beta test and start it once we stabilize our server.
We would like to apologize for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused.
We would like to add that due to the above reasons, we will be making the following changes to the schedule:
1) Start date: Planned for 04/25/2008 24:00(PDT). While the start is planned for the weekend, it may change due to unforseen circumstances.
3) Beta Test closure: This will now be on 05/11/2008 at 24:00(PDT) rather than 05/05/2008 at 24:00(PDT)
IMPORTANT: Please note that your voucher code will only be valid up until 05/05/2008, so please make sure to register them by then.
