Batman throws Robin under the bus

There’s this new Batman movie coming out soon. I think it’s called The Night a Clown Came to Town: Batman 2, Electric Baloogaloo. Christian Bale, the actor most people know as Quinn Abercromby in Reign of Fire, has threatened to kill himself if Chris O’Donnell reprises his role as Robin in the third movie.

If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I’ll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work.

As a young man, I watched a movie about a lonely retarded boy who wanted nothing more than to play football. It made me tear up as the poor boy struggled to comprehend simple, daily things, like the tragic circus incident that killed his parents. I think it may have involved an elephant.

He had a mentor, a father figure, if you will, who took him under his wing to protect him from the harsh reality they share. In this brightly lit, neon carnival they called home, the two worked as a team to fight off defensive linemen and the occasional thief, until half way through the movie, my brother, home from a long day of work, interrupted to ask me why I was crying.

“This movie Radio is so touching,” I said. “I can never understand the pain of being mentally challenged, yet my heart weeps for their plight.”

He looked from the television to me.

“This is Batman Forever,” he replied. I haven’t shed a tear since.

Sony unreleases update 2.40

After numerous problems reported by consumers after downloading the 2.40 update, Sony decided to take the update offline. According to the official PlayStation blog:

As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.

Sarah @Wood’s review of “The Dark Knight”

Well I was fortunate enough to have Sarah Atwood provide me with a review of the upcoming summer film “The Dark Knight”. Sarah was able to catch a glimpse of this film last Friday and though I was mad at her for not taking me, it’s water under the bridge. Here is her exclusive review for “The Dark Knight” and be sure to check her out on her site HERE for your weekly dose of Nerdtainment. And now, time for her review followed by her video review:

MINOR SPOILER ALERT
The Dark Knight is full of excellent writing, beautiful direction and amazing performances.  It is dark, sexy, psychotic, action packed…in other words it is exactly what we want out of a summer blockbuster.  The moment where the Batpod is introduced made me want to jump out of my seat and cheer and then…when you see what it can do…hot!

What I loved most about The Dark Knight is that each character has layers and an arc.  No one falls flat.  No one is just a comic book character.  These are real people with complexity, passion and fear.  Even Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman), who has one of the smaller roles in the movie, wastes no screen time.

Most notably, for me, are Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledger’s performances. I have never seen Eckhart show such depth.  As Harvey Dent he has an intense drive to protect his town. Bruce Wayne calls him the White Knight.  He is the face of good that Gotham needs. Then as he becomes Two Face, this intensity turns to revenge.  His transformation is honest and believable.

Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker goes beyond an evil villain. He carries visible wounds that motivate him to create chaos as if he has no reason to live and wants to bring everyone else down with him. He is thrilled by others pain and misery and dares Batman to play with him to the death. I could have lived without the strange tongue action he did but the clear intent behind each line made up for it.

I felt this was a well done story with perfectly timed action sequences until we hit what I assumed was the end.  This is where I will voice my only complaint.  The end didn’t end.  It kept going. In fact, it kept going for probably 30 minutes. It did suck me back in and it was an exciting 30 minutes but I had to question why this ending. The movie didn’t need to cram all that in. Christopher Nolan could have saved some plot points for a third installment.  But…there is too much good in this movie to complain, so I’ll let it slide. Because of this glitch, I must keep Iron Man as the best summer movie so far with The Dark Knight as a close second.

The big action scenes were shot in IMAX which can only make them even more bad ass. I will definitely be seeing it in IMAX when it opens.

A spoof trailer of “The Dark Knight”

Now normally I hate cheezy homemade spoofs because frankly…they aren’t funny. This one, however, actually made me laugh enough to take the time to embed it on this site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

“Metal Gear Online” sucks balls

After trying out MGO beta I thought I saw some promise, and I’ve been looking forward to the finished product.

The MGO that’s been included in the Metal Gear Solid 4 package, however, sucks balls.

Why? Because it’s still MGO beta. Sure, the game is mildly amusing, but the only major difference is the addition of “sneaking mode.” In this new mode one player is chosen at random to play as MGS4’s husky protagonist. If there are a sufficient number of players, a second player is chosen to play as Otacon’s Mark II robot.

This new mode is great fun, even if you’re not playing as Snake and he keeps lunging at you from the shadows, rocking your dome into the next dimension. As Snake, your objective is to knock out or hold up enemies and steal a set amount of dog tags (but some players like to ignore this objective and simply go apeshit with the machine gun). The Mark II simply gets to skirt around like a little demon ninja and stun people. The red and blue teams are supposed to either kill Snake a set amount of times or simply reach the required kill-count, just like regular deathmatch.

The problem is that it’s very difficult to find a room where the game cycle is set exclusively to sneaking mode. And the fact that 75% of MGO’s population consists of 12-year-old puntfucks doesn’t help. Yes, those numbers are scientific. I called Hideo Kojima to ask him why he decided to target the puntfuck demographic, but his secretary’s assistant’s intern didn’t believe me when I told him I work for The New York Times.
